A Few Words About Staff Positions |
 
|
SENIOR COUNSELORS - generally just graduated from high school, are college students and/or
teachers working with a group of children. |
 
|
JUNIOR COUNSELOR PROGRAM - entering 10th-12th grades and assist Senior Counselors with
a bunk of children. |
 
|
SPECIALIST STAFF - high school graduates who have the skills and leadership experience in a specific
area such as nature, dance, outdoor adventure, theatre, ceramics, arts and crafts, music,
computers, cooking, boating, fishing, aerobics, pool and sports. Some Junior Counselors are
also hired to assist in a specialty area. |
Camper/Staff Ratio
Our group counselors are responsible for 10-16 campers of the same age and sex at all times during the
camp day. The number of staff per bunk is usually as follows and is determined by the age of campers: |

Genies (3 - 4 yr. olds) - 1 Senior Counselor and 2 Junior Counselors |
 
|
Sesame (5 - 7 yr. olds) - 1 Senior Counselor and 2 Junior Counselors |
 
|
Rockwood (8 - 12 yr. olds) - 2 Senior or 1 Senior Counselor and 1 Junior Counselor |
About Transportation
Staff must reside within our pick-up area or be able to provide their own transportation. Most staff, 18 years of
age and older, provide their own transportation and some pick-up campers and/or other staff on their way to
camp. Some staff, 21 years of age and older, drive leased vehicles and some staff are assigned as trans counselors. All offers of positions in camp are dependent upon available transportation if needed. |
As A Staff Member You Agree To |
 
|
employment for the full eight week season. |
 
|
provide required references and complete necessary paper work in a timely fashion. |
 
|
attendance at orientations, the extended evening activities and specialist meetings. |
 
|
be on time (8:25 - 8:50 dependent upon your position and transportation arrangements) and make all
appointments after the camp day (4:00 or after your transportation responsibilities are completed).
If you have another job after camp, arrange your schedule so you do not need to leave early. |
 
|
dress appropriately and wear a staff shirt daily. |
 
|
make the health, safety and welfare of the campers your #1 priority and focus. |
 
|
participate in special events and activities. |
 
|
support the camp administration, goals, policies and procedures. |
Counselors Also Agree To |
 
|
wear a bathing suit to instructional swim, actively assist at swim lessons and act as a lookout at fun swim. |
 
|
assist Specialists with instruction when your group goes to sports, arts & crafts, ropes course, etc. |
Specialist Also Agree To |
 
|
plan and carry out program as determined with the Directors. |
 
|
assist in program set-up prior to the camp season as needed. |
 
|
instruct classes as designated by your Director. |
 
|
wear clothing appropriate to your position. |
 
|
assist as needed to implement the rainy day programs and special events. |
 
|
Art Staff also prepare assigned craft samples. |

|
Have two written reference forms sent to the camp office. |
 
|
If positions are available, personal interviews are scheduled primarily during the day, in the evening,
on some weekends and school vacations. |
 
|
